Lafayette Grill will be gone but not forgotten

Today is the last day that my favorite milonga in New York City, Ensueño Milonga, will be held at Lafayette Grill, a restaurant in downtown Manhattan. Lafayette Grill lost their lease because the landlord increased the rent suddenly to almost double what it was. The venue held tango on four nights out of seven, and on the other nights was a venue for other types of dance such as bellydancing and flamenco. We will all miss Lafayette Grill very much.

Lafayette Grill, we dance away from you now but we won’t forget the great times we had there!

Technically it will be on Monday, but since Monday is supposed to be rainy and bad for taking photos, I finished this today and am uploading ahead of time. I worked on this one a little each day all this week. Happy Chinese New Year everyone!!

Advent calendar, day 24

This is the final day of the advent calendar! I know, I know, this post is early but I’m going to Virginia to visit my family tomorrow and I won’t be around to post. I decided to include a Menorah for Hanukkah in my advent calendar! So this final post has the Menorah with the fifth candle lit (since people began lighting them on Dec. 20th and they light one a day, and one of them is the candle they use to light the others so the one on the right doesn’t count…) and below is the stable in Bethlehem where Jesus was born. Each of the advent calendar drawings are only about 1 inch high and done with a big window crayon so they’re a bit rough but you get the picture (pun intended). I hope you’ve enjoyed the advent calendar adventure! Special big thanks to my friend and coworker Vijaya for helping come up with ideas for the windows.

So, Monday night I had an unfortunate accident with a large, heavy piece of exercise equipment which fell on my big toe. Tuesday they had to remove the nail and do surgery on the nail bed, and the toe is also broken. I’ve been working from home, hence no Lipstick building drawings. Today I just had to do a drawing though, so I used what canvas I have at hand… my TOE!  (special thanks to Tioma for the great concept!)
